A police officer working outside the Pentagon shot and killed two people in Maryland
A Pentagon police officer on duty shot dead two people he believed were breaking into a car in Maryland early Wednesday morning, according to local police.
The Takoma Park police department said an unnamed police officer with the Pentagon Force Protection Agency shot and killed Dominique Williams, 32, and James Lionel Johnson, 38, both of Madganis.
Shortly after 5 a.m. TPPD police responded to numerous reports of gunshots fired at Takoma Overlook Condominiums on New Hampshire Avenue.
After the officers arrived, a PFPA official on duty arrived and said he had shot his suspects’ weapon, claiming that they had fled after disobeying his orders in the face of what he believed to be an ongoing car hijacking.
Two of the victims, Williams and Johnson, were taken to Prince George Hospital where they died of gunshot wounds, Takoma Park police said.
“We understand that there is a lot of excitement in this case,” wrote Takoma Park police. “We urge the public to remain patient as we fully investigate the incident.”
The Montgomery County State Attorney’s Office is reviewing and investigating, police said.

Jacqueline Yost, a spokeswoman for the PFPA, said the officer in question had been with the PFPA since July 2019.
“He previously served as a state police officer, 2009 – 2019, and served as a U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force officer as a military officer. This officer is now present in all forms of use of force and firearms,” wrote Yost.
According to NBC News Washington, an PFPA official who shot the men is on leave.
