Kevin Feige Claims That The Avengers Films Are Now Saga Capers Rather Than Simply Team-Up Movies. Now More Than Just Team-Up Movies, Avengers Films Are Saga Cappers. Says Kevin Feige
According to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, the Avengers movies are now positioned to be saga cappers rather than team-up pictures that appear in the last chapters of each MCU phase. The Avengers movies are now released after a complete saga that comprises multiple phases rather than being released as a culminating film of each phase, given that there are now more projects spread across fewer years, according to Kevin Feige, who spoke with MTV News at San Diego Comic-Con 2022.
Feige reflected on the earlier MCU phases, saying, “The truth is, while we were doing Phase 1, Phase 2, and Phase 3, there were less projects spanning more years.” It was appropriate at the time that we would make a “Avengers” feature every two or three years, given they were smaller projects and unique character storylines. Four Avengers movies were made over the course of the Infinity Saga, which covered Phases 1, 2, and 3 of the MCU. The first Avengers movie was released in 2012, and the final one was released in 2019. The first three Avengers films were released three years apart from one another, whereas Infinity War and Endgame were only released one year apart.
Six years after the release of Endgame, The Kang Dynasty, the following Avengers movie, is planned for release. The bigger gap between Avengers movies, according to Feige, is partially a result of the fact that major superhero team-up movies are now dispersed throughout each MCU phase, altering how Avengers movies are accounted for in release plans. “We felt, certainly after ‘Infinity War’ and ‘Endgame,’ that ‘Avengers’ movies aren’t cappers,” he added. “As [Phase] 4, 5 and 6 were coming together, there are more projects in less years – because of all the amazing stuff we’re now allowed to do on Disney+, and getting characters from Fox, Fantastic Four, and Deadpool.” “The majority of our current features, including “Multiverse of Madness” and the upcoming “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” are large team-up movies that introduce significant portions of the mythology. The “Avengers” movies ought to genuinely be a saga’s climax.”
