Nike denies any involvement with Lil Nas X ‘Satan Shoes’ containing human blood
The Devil is wearing a Prada – and now, according to rapper Lil Nas X, he is also wearing Nike shoes that contain human blood.
Lil Nas X, a “Old Town Road” artist, is partnering with clothing company MSCHF for the “Satan Shoes” box, which is only 666 pairs that went on sale on Monday. The controversial kick – apparently modified by the Nike Air Max 97s – was adorned with a pentagram and pointed to Luke 10:18, a Bible verse that speaks of Satan’s fall from heaven.
It only sold after a sale on Monday, at a price of $ 1,018 per pair.
The sneakers also contain a drop of personal blood, obtained by members of the MSCHF team, the company told NBC News on Sunday.
News of the shoes sparked outrage on Palm Sunday weekend; some critics have criticized both Lil Nas X and Nike. But Nike is quick to distance itself from the shoes, proving to be the standard custom of existing products.
“We have no relationship with Little Nas X or MSCHF,” Nike said in a statement. “Nike did not design or release these shoes and we do not sponsor them.”
MSCHF had earlier released a modified Nike Air Max 97s called “Jesus Shoes,” which contained what it described as the only sacred water from the Jordan River.
The release of Satan Shoes coincides with Lil Nas X’s latest song, “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” and the accompanying video. In the video, Lil Nas X is enticed into what appears to be the garden of Eden, falling into hell and giving the devil a pumpkin dance.
The music video has been viewed more than 29 million times since its release on Friday.
After Friday’s release, Lil Nas X released an open letter to his younger brother about his release. The rapper, who is apparently gay, explained that the song was about a boy he met last summer.
“I know we promised we would never go public, I know we promised we would never be that kind of gay person, I know we promised we would die a secret, but this will open the doors for many other wonderful people to be there,” he wrote.
Music video for “Montero” includes a voice with the same message.

Lil Nas X first appeared in a tweet in June 2019, on the last day of Pride Month, following the success of the “Old Town Road chart.”
He unveiled the rainbow structure on the cover of his album, “C7osure,” and said, “Deadass thought I made it clear.”
